Trains have always been a forbidden entity in my life. Before I was born my mother's car was hit by a train and she has since passed her terrible fear of them to me. I always stayed far away from them, their size, and loudness terrified me, and still does. One day though, I was photographing an abandoned train station and quickly discovered the tracks running through the station were still active. I heard the train first, and then realized it would be mere feet away from me any second. Against my better judgement I decided to stay and photograph it. The fear and adrenaline that rushed through me as the train rushed past was fantastic and I knew I had to continue this journey.
I wanted to capture the strength, boldness and age of the trains. I decided that salt printing was my best option to add a historic feel. The small size I printed them at makes the trains more intimate and less intimidating.
